BIO

David Huisman started his journey on the road of design with a degree in Fine Arts and summers traveling in Europe, particularly in Germany, Italy, and France. His interest in design was influenced by the colors and textures seen in these countries, and the beauty expressed in the homes, public buildings, and the fountains in all of the Mediterranean countries. Inspiration from David’s international travels have allowed for extraordinary results. David began to design and manufacture furniture for resort developers in the Western United States. By 1987 David’s skill designing and creating furniture expanded into designing living spaces as he diversified into historic kitchen and bath renovations in Northern California. David has continued to expand his market working with numerous clients throughout the U.S., including clients in Petaluma, Napa, Lafayette, Moraga, Danville, Orinda, San Francisco, Pacific Grove, Palo Alto, Livermore, Reno, Las Vegas, Mount Whistler, Tahoe, Mammoth Lakes, Cleveland, Dallas, Concord-NH, and Nantucket. David’s work has been published in various magazines including: Trends, California Home & Design, Sunset Books, Nantucket Magazine, Lafayette Juniors Kitchen Tour and two Showcase Homes.

His designs showcase the personality of the home owners from traditionally elegant, to rustic cottages, seaside weekend retreats, and spacious mountain homes.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

David’s design philosophy is to give the client the space of their dreams. No two spaces are ever alike-no design is ever duplicated-you will have an original. In all stages of the design process, no matter the size of the project we listen carefully to what our client want, need, and desire. We match these qualifications with family lifestyle, living environment, cooking and entertainment needs to provide our clients their own-unique kitchen/living environment. Whether designing a kitchen or piece of furniture-DHD interprets your style through discussion, exchange of thoughts and ideas, to design. David’s ability to translate your thoughts into reality comes from over 30 years of construction and design experience. We question, we listen, we advise, we guide and we foster a collaborative effort between our client, designer, builder/contractor, and architect. DHD specializes in design of finely crafted custom (bench-made) cabinets for period homes throughout the United States. We are dedicated to timeless design-achieved through close interaction of all parties involved from project inception, to installation through completion.

To that end, his customer service and personal attention to his clients needs is unparalleled in the industry. David sits with each client and listens to what they want what their dream of their home needs to feel and look like. He visits the site, takes measurements and then designs and works with their team to give the client the desired finished product a room filled with light, color and beautiful design. In most cases he is there for the furniture delivery and installation. His knowledge of appliances, lighting and construction compliments his design and attention to detail.

The kitchen or piece of furniture will look as if it has been there forever. Most appliances are fitted behind doors and placed within cupboards. The color palette, consisting of over 60 colors, can be very modern as well as very old. Some colors actually date back two hundred years and have been reproduced via today’s modern technology. Choosing the simplicity of stained wood is also an option and when paired with a colored cabinet the result is striking. David’ spaces inspire-and his inspiration comes from you-the client, the homeowner, and the chef-the family.
